On estimate, around 6 million people in the UK provide unpaid care to friends and family who are ill, frail or need extra support. These Care Givers put their own needs aside and dedicate themselves and their time to the complex and varied needs of a loved one. Our respite home care in Berkshire, Hampshire, and Surrey is there to support those who are providing care free of charge with a much-needed break.
How does respite care work?
Respite care is a form of temporary support designed to provide the Care Giver with a short-term break from the continuous care they provide. We do this by providing temporary support while the Care Giver takes a break.
At Blue Angel Care, each respite care package is tailored in line with the unique needs of the client; this could be assistance with personal care, including continence support, bathing and getting dressed, or more practical support, such as performing light housework, going shopping or administering medication.
The role of a respite Care Giver is to fill in temporarily, causing as little disruption to the client and their routines as possible.
Types of respite care
Designed to support the client in the best way for them, respite care comes in many forms depending on what kind of support is needed. Some ways that may be organized to relieve the usual Care Giver are:
Care services at home
These services mean that a replacement Care Giver will provide support for the client at their home. Additionally, we organize this alongside the usual care giver so that the support we provide is consistent. This is the most popular form of respite care as it allows the person receiving care to remain in a familiar setting.
Short-term residential care
On occasion, respite care may be organized on a short-term basis in a care home if space is available. This gives the Care Giver a break while we look after your loved one.
Sitting services
In some cases, a sitting service can be a good option for respite care. This allows the Care Giver to take a break for a few hours while we step in to provide care.
Day centers
Some local areas offer day centers to support Care Givers with respite care. It’s worth keeping up to date with what’s on offer in your local area.
