Respite Care that makes a difference
What is Respite Care?
Respite care is a temporary form of support that provides relief to primary caregivers by taking over the caregiving responsibilities for a short period. It can be arranged for a few hours, a day, or even longer, allowing the primary caregiver to rest, run errands, or attend to personal matters. Respite care can be provided in the home, at a day centre, or through a short stay at a residential facility.
We offer a number of different respite care packages, covering both residential and specialist dementia care. We also offer convalescence packages for those who need extra help following an accident or operation. Our flexible packages can be tailored in line with the needs of your loved one, from personal care, including assistance with bathing, dressing and using the toilet, to doing housework, going shopping or reminding clients to take medicine.
The duration of respite care depends on your individual requirements. It could be just a few days, a couple of weeks or even months. Our aim is to ensure you have enough support so you can relax in the knowledge that your loved one is in good hands. Looking after your own wellbeing is an essential part of caring for someone, and sometimes that means taking a break.
Do I need to take a break?
In almost every case, the answer to this is ‘yes’. You may be worried about having a stranger take over the care of a loved one – you may think they won’t do things right, there will be a personality clash, or worry you can’t trust them. We’ll be happy to talk through your concerns and reassure you that your loved one will be in safe hands. We will discuss the client’s individual needs with you in detail to ensure we can provide the level of care that’s right for both of you. All of our Care Givers are highly-trained professionals, and if you’re thinking of short-term residential care you will be offered a visit to the home to make sure you’re happy for your loved one to stay there.
We understand how hard it is to leave your loved one in someone else’s care, but with many years of experience in providing permanent and respite homecare in Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey and the surrounding area, we are confident that we can give you the reassurance you need.
Taking that first period of respite can be tough, but once you’ve felt the benefits to your health and well-being you’ll realise how important taking regular breaks is to delivering the best possible care. At Blue Angel Care, we’ll be there for you and your loved one to ensure they get the best possible care all year round.
What problems can occur if an older relative does not receive respite care services?
If an older relative does not receive respite care services, several problems can arise:
- Caregiver Burnout: Primary caregivers can experience physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion from the continuous demands of caregiving without any breaks, leading to stress, anxiety, and depression.
- Decline in Quality of Care: Overworked caregivers may struggle to provide the necessary level of care, resulting in neglect or reduced quality of care for the older relative.
- Health Issues: Both the caregiver and the older relative may face health problems. The caregiver’s health can deteriorate due to stress and lack of self-care, while the older relative might not receive adequate attention and support.
- Strained Relationships: The constant pressure of caregiving without respite can strain relationships between the caregiver, the older relative, and other family members, leading to conflicts and emotional distress.
