Along with providing high-quality home care in Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey and the surrounding areas, we care for our society as well. Therefore, here we list different activities to help people stay entertained while self-isolating.

Exercise

We all know that keeping active is important. However, it may not be possible to maintain a healthy, active life during this pandemic. In order to remain healthy at home, we suggest indoor exercise instead.

Simple exercises such as standing up without help combined with a challenge to complete a certain number each day can become quite fun. Some lively music can help too. Age UK has some great advice on gentle exercises.

Mental exercise

Keeping the brain active is just as important as the body. Activities like jigsaw puzzles and puzzle books are classic ways to keep the brain working.

Additionally, a memory challenge is a good one – find 5 to 10 small items and put them on a tray. The person doing the challenge has 30 seconds to study the tray and memorize the items. The tray is then covered and you have to see how many items they can remember.

Museums and galleries

Many big museums and galleries around the world are offering virtual tours to enable people to see the exhibits from their armchairs. For example, the British Museum in London virtual tour or the Natural History Museum. Moreover, a virtual tour might be the only chance to see the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York!

Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum also enables visitors to take a virtual tour of many masterpieces, including Rembrandt’s Night Watch.

Crafting

After looking at art from around the world, a good way to keep active is to make some. It doesn’t have to be a masterpiece. For example, drawing a simple still life using a pencil and paper, or activities such as gluing pasta and rice in patterns.

There are lots of ideas available online. For anyone who thinks they can’t draw, bingo dot markers are great for making a pattern instead. Or maybe words are of more interest, in which case why not encourage writing a story or poem?

Theatre, musicals and opera

Watching TV can get boring after a while, but there are plenty of plays and musicals available to stream instead! There are lots of stage shows that can be watched online for free, and some theatres are creating new content designed specially to be watched at home.
